Eating the food you buy is either moving you closer to your diet and weight management goal or further from it. And, since it’s not likely you’re ever going to stop eating, it would be clever of you to take a hard look at what you're putting into your grocery cart, right? Can we assume that everyone shops at a grocery store every once in a while? Good, then we can move right along.
Your Food Goes Inside Who?
Standing in line at my grocery store, I was checking out what everyone else had in their cart. After recovering from the appalling assortment of harmful junk I was looking at, it dawned on me……I come to this place all the time to buy THE MOST Important ingredient for my health… my food. I eat this stuff, put it in my body but am I shopping healthy to eat healthy? What do I know about the food I buy and the place that sells it? Hmmmm? Not a lot.
Most of us have never given a moment’s thought about how a grocery store is set up? It certainly is not for healthy food shopping. Marketing folks, not nutritionist, make certain that end-cap displays, floor layouts and traffic patterns and product placement are strategically positioned to entice you to buy high-profit items with little regard to nutrition and healthy eating. Just walk down the cereal aisle and see what is at your eye level and what is at a child’s eye level. Pretty smart marketing, right? Pretty sneaky. Did I hear the word nutrition echo down the aisle? How about the lack there of? Do you take the time to understand the labels on the food you buy? Or, are they just so confusing you chuck that box of “What‘ver Ka Bobs” in your cart and keep your fingers crossed? OK, so, learning how best to use the grocery store and reading food labels might be a good thing. But, wait, it’s a booorrrring subject. ZZZzzzz… Yeah, I know it’s boring, but here are…
