Ways to Reduce Stress through Time Management, Organization and Support Systems
Looking for ways to reduce stress today is a huge subject. Our minds and bodies were not designed to be stressed by nutrition challenged food, environmental toxins and money concerns in an uncertain economy. So, the body can interpret stress by either gaining or even losing weight. Either way your body deals with stress is not natural or healthy. Here are three big areas to apply stress reducer techniques. Take a look at each of these areas. Analyze your own life situation, develop ways to reduce stress and take action.
Time Management
Effective stress control requires excellent time management skills. Prioritizing your tasks, avoiding over-scheduling and over-commitment can be a critical stress reducer.Always use a calendar or planner. Scheduling your tasks, appointments and commitments can give a sense of security that tasks will get accomplished thereby managing time and reducing tension. Don’t forget to check your calendar regularly. Another time management de-stresser is identifying time-wasters. Keep a diary for a week of everything you do. Upon review you may find a lot of ways to reduce stress by eliminating wasteful activities. We each get 24 hours, 84,600 seconds, in a day. Take a walk or a break, decompress, really stop to smell the roses.
Organization Skills
Firstly, take a look around your home, kitchen, garage, closets and drawers, look at your workspace or your car. The more clutter, the greater your inability to keep organized the greater your pressure and stress. Looking for a lost item, or that item you know you put “somewhere” increases tension and wastes time. Set up a periodic schedule to clean one area. Sorting through the masses and messes of paperwork and clutter that accumulate over time will provide a sense of accomplishment and organization. And, remember, it’s and on going task. You will clean and new “stuff” will fill the void. It’s a part of life.
Support Systems
Whether you believe it or not none of us go through our days without some support from family, co-workers or friends. Even your pets can function as a support structure. (My feline buddy, Rocky, sleeps near me as I write this.) Seeking support is not a sign of weakness. Having strong business, social and personal support structures in place are great ways to reduce stress. You’ll always know that you’re not alone… out there, and it’s healthy for both body and mind.
